Mount Rogers Health District Offering COVID-19 Booster Doses

(Marion, Va.) – Mount Rogers Health District is offering booster doses of the Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The booster vaccine can be obtained by eligible individuals at least 6 months from the date of second mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine or at least 2 months from the date of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Those eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson booster dose include:

  • Certain individuals who completed the mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) primary series at least 6 months ago:
  • All individuals aged 18 years or older who received the Johnson & Johnson primary vaccine dose at least 2 months ago.

“We encourage everyone who is planning to get a booster to do so at their convenience,” said Breanne Forbes Hubbard, population health manager. “People can go to a participating pharmacy or health care provider to get a booster dose; they do not have to return to the same place they got their initial vaccines.”

Mount Rogers Health District is coordinating efforts to make COVID-19 vaccines available to the 5-11 year old population as soon as those are authorized, so booster appointments are limited at this time to Fridays in local health department offices. Please call your local health department to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins may be able to be accommodated, but appointments are strongly encouraged. Please bring your vaccine card from your primary vaccine series with you to your booster appointment.

Individuals who are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster dose may choose which vaccine product they would like to receive as a booster. Individuals who are considering a different product can speak to their healthcare provider for additional guidance.
