Southside Health District to Open Mobile Vaccination Clinics

(FARMVILLE, Va.)  — Beginning May 25, the Virginia Department of Health’s Southside Health District, in coordination with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and other supporting partners, will begin to offer free COVID-19 vaccines in a series of smaller and more local clinics, primarily in rural and underserved areas where vaccine access can be challenging.

These vendor-operated, mobile vaccination clinics will move from place to place to support local health department efforts in the Southside Health District and across the state.

The dates, times and locations of these mobile clinics are attached.

“We are very excited to be able to offer the convenience of these mobile clinics in our health district,” said Dr. Scott Spillmann, director of the Southside Health District.  “You can stop by on your way home from work or while you are out running errands. No pre-registration needed.”

These clinic sites were selected based on demonstrated needs and available data in order to reach unvaccinated Virginians in the Southside health district at times and places that are closer and more convenient.

These mobile clinics will offer the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, thus eliminating the need for a mobile clinic to have to return to a particular area for second-dose shots. For more information about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, please talk to your healthcare provider or visit www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/191/2021/05/JJInformation.pdf.

“It’s never been easier to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” Dr. Spillmann said. “The safe and effective Johnson & Johnson vaccine is very convenient – one dose and you’re done!”

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available to all Virginians ages 18 and up. No registration needed. Walk-ins welcome.

To find a vaccination site near you, please visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or vaccinefinder.org. You can learn more about the vaccine, its safety and answers to frequently asked questions at VDH’s website and CDC’s website.
