“Love Grows Here”
Portsmouth Health Department Holds Free Baby Shower

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Portsmouth Health Department is hosting a free community baby shower. The event “Love Grows Here” will help educate families and connect them to vital resources. There will be free giveaways for all.

When: Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: The Neighborhood Facility, 900 Elm Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23704.

The goal is to create a welcoming space where families can connect and feel supported.

The 2025 Virginia Momnibus legislative package aims to improve maternal health. Community health workers at the Portsmouth Health Department support families by building trust and helping them get the care they need.  This approach ensures families receive ongoing, personalized support, rather than one-time referrals.

“Maternal health remains a critical issue in Portsmouth,” said Angela Tillery, acting health director for the Portsmouth Health Department. “Many families face challenges such as limited access to prenatal care, transportation barriers, and gaps in information about available services. These challenges contribute to disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes. Events like this baby shower are one way the community can directly address those gaps.  We are connecting families with trusted providers and resources in a supportive environment.”

The event is free of charge, but registration is required. Register at  https://redcap.link/crt9rlfe.
