(Staunton, Virginia) — The Lexington/Rockbridge Health Department, Virginia Department of Health, is pleased to announce a new partnership with the University of Virginia Medical Center to provide maternity care for area clients.

The Health Department and UVA will provide for prenatal, postpartum, and nurse office visits. Clients will deliver at the UVA Medical Center, but receive their care locally at the health department. Services include pregnancy testing, medical history, routine lab work, prenatal exam by a nurse practitioner or physician, referrals to community resources and nutrition counseling. Visits are by appointment only.

Care of high risk pregnancies will be in collaboration with UVA and the health department via video telemedicine. “The telemedicine program has been a proven success, and is well established locally the Harrisonburg Community Health Center and the Staunton and Waynesboro Health Departments,” noted Douglas Larsen, M.D., director of the Central Shenandoah Health District.
