THOMAS JEFFERSON EMS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES SIX REGIONAL AWARD WINNERS

Charlottesville, Va. – The Thomas Jefferson Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc., honored its men and women of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) who were nominated for exemplifying exceptional service and dedication at the council’s regional awards ceremony held May 8, 2013, at Lake Monticello.

“We are proud to pay tribute to the EMS personnel within the Thomas Jefferson region. Each and every nominee is well-deserving of receiving a regional award,” said Stephen Rea, executive director of the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council.

Recipients of this year’s regional awards will have the opportunity to compete for the coveted 2013 Governor’s EMS Awards, which will be announced at the Virginia EMS Symposium’s Annual Awards Ceremony November 10 in Norfolk, Va. Winners will be presented with a trophy and a certificate signed by the Governor.

“The Regional EMS Awards program provides each council the opportunity to showcase the phenomenal acts of service that are demonstrated by their local EMS providers. These recipients have shown their excellence by going above and beyond; and for that we say thank you and congratulations,” said Gary Brown, director of the Virginia Office of EMS.

The 2013 Thomas Jefferson EMS Council regional award recipients:

  • Excellence in EMS – Ed Kelly, Lake Monticello Volunteer Rescue Squad
  • Outstanding Pre-Hospital Educator – Lewis Jenkins, UVA Health Systems Pre-hospital Education
  • Outstanding Pre-Hospital Provider – Cynthia Lopez, Lake Monticello Volunteer Rescue Squad
  • Outstanding EMS Agency – Gladstone Volunteer Fire and Rescue
  • Outstanding EMS Administrator – Curtis Sheets, Chief, Fire and Rescue of Wintergreen
  • Outstanding Contribution to EMS by a High School Senior ($1,000 Scholarship) – Logan Dudley, Greene County Rescue Squad, Standardsville Volunteer Fire Dept. and William Monroe High School
