(Wise, VA) – The LENOWISCO Health District is pleased to announce the re-opening of satellite clinic locations to offer WIC (Women, Infants and Children) assistance to families.

WIC, a food and nutrition program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, offers free, nutritious food and nutritional information to eligible pregnant and postpartum women and to children from birth to five years of age. This initiative is an effort to reach out to families to bring a very valuable, free service closer to home in order to make it more accessible and convenient for families to participate.

New clinic locations opening during the month of February are:

  • St. Paul – Oxbow Center, second and fourth Fridays of each month, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Duffield – Three Bells United Methodist Church, first and third Mondays of each month, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The District currently has two WIC satellite clinics in operation:

  • Coeburn – Litchfield Apartments, first and third Wednesdays of each month, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Appalachia – Inman Village Apartments, first and third Fridays of each month, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Plans for additional satellite clinics to open in Big Stone Gap and Rose Hill are well underway. Those specific locations will be announced in March.

In addition to Health Department clinics located in Gate City, Jonesville and Wise, the District also offers extended evening clinics from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., once a month in each county health department:

  • Lee Co. Health Department, 134 Hill St., Jonesville, 276-346-4387 – first Monday of each month
