(Charlottesville, Va.) – The Thomas Jefferson Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Council, Inc. recognized the superior level of dedication and commitment displayed by members of the regional EMS system at the council’s awards banquet held, May 11, at the Martha Jefferson Outpatient Care Center in Charlottesville.

“In an era where there are increasing demands on the personal time of volunteers and their families, it brings into stark reality how hard it is to simply maintain your volunteer memberships,” said Tom Joyce, executive director of the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council. “With this in mind, it is imperative that we as a council both see and recognize those who have gone above and beyond to achieve remarkable service. The awards are a small way for the council, and their peers, to say thank you to the individuals and those families that allow time away from them to make this happen.”

Recipients of this year’s regional awards will have the chance to compete for the prestigious 2016 Governor’s EMS Awards, which will be announced at the Virginia EMS Symposium’s Annual Awards Ceremony, Nov. 12 in Norfolk. Winners will be presented with a trophy and a certificate signed by the Governor.

“I am honored to acknowledge the remarkable level of service and dedication shown by these regional award winners,” said Gary Brown, director of the Virginia Office of EMS. “Their commitment to providing lifesaving patient care to citizens in their community make them worthy of such recognition.”
