{"id":11633,"date":"2024-08-23T15:28:57","date_gmt":"2024-08-23T19:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/news\/?page_id=11633"},"modified":"2024-08-23T20:49:12","modified_gmt":"2024-08-24T00:49:12","slug":"rappahannock-rapidan-health-district-issues-swimming-advisory-for-the-rapidan-river","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/news\/public-relations-contacts\/archived-news-releases\/2024-regional-news-releases\/rappahannock-rapidan-health-district-issues-swimming-advisory-for-the-rapidan-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Rappahannock Rapidan Health District Issues Swimming Advisory for the Rapidan River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>August 22, 2024<br \/>\n<strong>Media Contact:<\/strong> Brookie Crawford, <a href=\"mailto:brookie.crawford@vdh.virginia.gov\">brookie.crawford@vdh.virginia.gov<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Rappahannock Rapidan Health District Issues Swimming Advisory for the Rapidan River<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ORANGE COUNTY, Va. \u2013 Effective immediately, the Rappahannock Rapidan Health District is issuing a swimming advisory for the Rapidan River from the boat launch at Route 3 to the boat launch at Route 610 until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>This advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution in response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/news\/2024-regional-news-releases\/rapidan-service-authority-virginia-department-of-health-issue-do-not-use-water-advisory\/\">Do Not Use water advisory<\/a> issued August 21 by the Rapidan Service Authority (RSA), the owner of the Wilderness Water Treatment Plant (WTP), in coordination with the Virginia Department of Health.<\/p>\n<p>The Rappahannock Rapidan Health District is advising the public to avoid activities in the advisory area that will result in prolonged contact such as swimming or stand-up paddle boarding (SUPing) and prevent pets from swimming. Activities that result in limited contact such wading in the water to launch a boat, kayaking, canoeing, may continue with proper caution.<\/p>\n<p>Officials are collecting and analyzing river water samples to determine the chemical makeup of the odors reported.
