Molds can cause disease, trigger allergic reactions and continue to damage materials.<\/p>\n<h2>To protect against health risks associated with mold:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Open windows and doors to provide plenty of fresh air.<\/li>\n<li>Remove standing water from your home or office.<\/li>\n<li>Remove wet materials.<\/li>\n<li>If mold growth has already occurred, remove or clean the moldy material carefully.\n<ul>\n<li>Follow cleaning instructions. Do mix cleaners and disinfectants. Mixing can cause hazardous chemical reactions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Consider using personal protective equipment when cleaning or removing mold. This includes:\n<ul>\n<li>Gloves<\/li>\n<li>Goggles<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0N95 particle respirator (found at most local hardware stores)\n<ul>\n<li>Check with a healthcare provider before wearing a respirator.<\/li>\n<li>Do not use a respirator if you have heart disease or chronic lung disease such as asthma or emphysema.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Individuals with mold allergies or asthma should not clean or remove moldy materials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moisture that enters buildings from leaks or flooding accelerates mold growth.\u00a0 Failure to control moisture and mold can present short and long-term health risks.
