The incident happened on September 4, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m.\u00a0 If the dog is not found, the victim may have to undergo post exposure treatment (shots) for the prevention of rabies.<\/p>\n<p>The dog will be able to stay with its owner.\u00a0 It will be placed on an in-home confinement period of 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who has seen an animal that fits the description of a dog in this area is asked to contact the appropriate Animal Control Office listed below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hampton\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>757-727-6111<\/p>\n<p><strong>Newport News\/Poquoson\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>757-595-7387<\/p>\n<p><strong>Williamsburg\/JCC\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>757-565-0370 (daytime); 757-253-1800 (evenings, weekends, holidays)<\/p>\n<p><strong>York County\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>757-890-3601<\/p>\n<p>Residents are reminded to report all exposures, enjoy wildlife from a distance, and make sure their family pets are vaccinated and protected against the rabies virus. Virginia state law requires that dogs and cats be vaccinated between 3 and 4 months of age and thereafter to maintain protection against rabies.
