Remember those who have been lost, unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and raise awareness to prevent new cases of HIV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage everyone in our district to stand together \u2014 get tested, stay informed, and support those living with HIV. On this World AIDS Day we renew our commitment to prevention, care and compassion,\u201d said Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District Director J. Carr, M.D.<\/p>\n<p>More than 28,000 people are living with HIV in Virginia. More than 75% of people with HIV in Virginia are men, and more than half are 50 years or older. While Black, non-Hispanic people make up 19% of the population in the Commonwealth, 56% of people with HIV identify as Black, non-Hispanic in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Support from family and friends can be helpful. If you know of anyone who has been diagnosed with HIV, help is available. Financial assistance with medication costs or copays is available through local, state, or federal programs. Visit the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/disease-prevention\">Virginia Department of Health<\/a><\/u> to learn about prevention, treatment, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/disease-prevention\/hivtreatment\/#financ3_help\">financial assistance<\/a><\/u>, STI data, and other related resources.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about HIV:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Call the Disease Prevention Hotline at (800) 533-4148.<\/li>\n<li>Learn more about <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greaterthan.org\/treat-faq\/\">HIV treatment<\/a><\/u>\u00a0at <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greaterthan.org\">greaterthan.org<\/a><\/u>.<\/li>\n<li>Visit the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/hivinfo.nih.gov\/understanding-hiv\/fact-sheets\/hiv-and-sexually-transmitted-infections-stis\">National Institute of Health<\/a><\/u>\u00a0to learn about coinfections and conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Search the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/sti-statistics\/about\/\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(CDC) website to view national data on sexually transmitted infections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let\u2019s work to fight against HIV and AIDS.
