{"id":17308,"date":"2026-02-05T16:40:57","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T21:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/news\/?page_id=17308"},"modified":"2026-02-10T09:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T14:00:20","slug":"hampton-peninsula-health-districts-release-2025-annual-report-highlighting-public-health-progress","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/news\/public-relations-contacts\/2026-regional-news-releases\/hampton-peninsula-health-districts-release-2025-annual-report-highlighting-public-health-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Hampton &#038; Peninsula Health Districts Release 2025 Annual Report Highlighting Public Health Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>February 5th, 2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Media Contact<\/strong>: Tes La Dieu, Population Health Manager, (757) 594-7411<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Hampton &amp; Peninsula Health Districts Release 2025 Annual Report Highlighting Public Health Progress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NEWPORT NEWS, VA. &#8211; The Hampton &amp; Peninsula Health Districts (HPHD) are proud to share the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/206\/Annual-Report-HPHD-FY-25-.pdf\">FY2025 Annual Report<\/a>.\u00a0 The report highlights a year of growth, resilience and ongoing work to make the Greater Peninsula region a healthier place to live.<\/p>\n<p>HPHD had several notable accomplishments over the last year, including Project Public Health Ready recognition for 2025\u20132029, reflecting HPHD\u2019s commitment to public health preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis past year brought challenges, but it also brought growth and recognition,\u201d said HPHD\u2019s health district director, Dr. Natasha Dwamena. \u201cOur staff has shown resilience and adaptability. They continue to find new ways to meet the needs of our community. Our team remains mission-driven and dedicated to improving the health of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite public health funding cuts, HPHD continued to deliver essential services to protect community health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlights from the report include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clinical services\n<ul>\n<li>More than 8,000 clinical services provided<\/li>\n<li>5,211 vaccines administered<\/li>\n<li>2,872 family planning and sexual health visits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Substance use prevention (Project LEAD)\n<ul>\n<li>28 REVIVE! overdose response trainings<\/li>\n<li>695 naloxone and opioid response kits distributed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program\n<ul>\n<li>More than 6,000 enrollments<\/li>\n<li>Breastfeeding support provided to about 200 women per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Disease prevention\n<ul>\n<li>More than 3,800 tuberculosis screenings<\/li>\n<li>More than 600 disease case investigations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Environmental health\n<ul>\n<li>More than 4,900 services completed<\/li>\n<li>2,798 food safety inspections<\/li>\n<li>891 rabies investigations<\/li>\n<li>202 beach water samples collected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Vital records\n<ul>\n<li>More than 35,000 records processed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>HPHD also launched several new initiatives during the year, including a program at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. Through this effort, the population health team shares health information with incarcerated individuals to help them better manage their care after release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional highlights include<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community health:\u00a0Completed HPHD\u2019s newest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/206\/HPHD-2025-CHA-2.pdf\">Community Health Assessment<\/a> and Continued work on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/206\/2024\/07\/2022-2028-HPHD-CHIP-REPORT_Final-V1-1.pdf\">2023-2028 Community Health Improvement Plan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Public safety: HPHD received comprehensive harm reduction state certification, enabling greater public safety and improved health outcomes in response to the opioid crisis.<\/li>\n<li>Community engagement:\u00a0More than 3,000 community interactions through classes, meetings, and events across the Greater Peninsula.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read the full\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/206\/Annual-Report-HPHD-FY-25-.pdf\">HPHD FY2025 Annual Report.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"># # #<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 5th, 2026 Media Contact: Tes La Dieu, Population Health Manager, (757) 594-7411 &nbsp;
