Sepsis is a critical public health issue that can strike anyone and require prompt action. It is the body\u2019s extreme response to an infection. Untreated, sepsis can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and even death. As many as <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepsis.org\/sepsis-survivor-week\/\">60% of sepsis survivors<\/a><\/u>\u00a0suffer from mental, physical, and\/or emotional challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from sepsis is to prevent infections. Know the signs and <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/sepsis\/about\/index.html\">symptoms of sepsis<\/a><\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n<li>Confusion<\/li>\n<li>Shortness of breath<\/li>\n<li>High heart rate<\/li>\n<li>Extreme pain\/discomfort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cSepsis is a life-threatening condition that can develop quickly and without warning,\u201d said Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District Director J. Carr, M.D. \u201cDuring Sepsis Survivor Week, we urge our community to learn the signs, trust their instincts, and seek medical care immediately, early action saves lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rappahannock-Rapidan Health Department is asking you to raise awareness and support for sepsis survivors by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sharing sepsis stories to inspire others and raise awareness.<\/li>\n<li>Learning the signs of sepsis.<\/li>\n<li>Seeking medical care immediately if you, a family member, or friend suspects sepsis.<\/li>\n<li>Connecting with a sepsis survivor group for ongoing support and resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Managing chronic health conditions and staying up to date on recommended vaccines are also key to reducing your risk.
