Virginia Department of Health Celebrates National Public Health Week<\/span><\/b>
\nNational Public Health Week is April 6-12<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RICHMOND, Va.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0T<\/span>he\u00a0Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is\u00a0recognizing\u00a0<\/span>National Public Health Week<\/span><\/a>, April 6-12,\u00a0by highlighting the critical\u00a0public health\u00a0work of VDH and its partner agencies.\u00a0Virginia\u2019s\u00a0public health workers are reflecting on why they serve, while\u00a0focusing\u00a0on the future of public health and its impact on communities across Virginia.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s\u00a0national call\u00a0to action\u00a0asks communities to renew their commitment to improving health outcomes. The\u00a0theme, \u201cReady. Set. Action!\u201d emphasizes assessing progress in public health and taking the next steps toward a healthier future.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDuring National Public Health Week, we’re reminded that the most powerful data we have isn’t in a chart or a dashboard; it’s in the lived experiences of the people we serve,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0<\/span>Virginia\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Health Commissioner\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Cameron\u00a0Webb.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u201cWhen we take the time to truly listen, we build the trust that is the foundation of\u00a0public\u00a0health. And with that trust, we can show up for Virginia\u2019s communities in\u00a0the\u00a0ways they need and\u00a0deserve.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For\u00a0nearly\u00a0400\u00a0years,\u00a0<\/span>public health<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has made its mark by overseeing\u00a0programs and services\u00a0designed to improve the health of Virginians.\u00a0<\/span>In 1610, the Jamestown Colony\u00a0enacted\u00a0the first sanitation\u00a0regulations.\u00a0Since then, public health\u00a0work has expanded. VDH provides hundreds of programs,\u00a0services\u00a0and resources,\u00a0covering all aspects of public health. The agency and its 35 local health districts serve more than 8.8 million Virginians in areas that include family health, environmental\u00a0health, disease prevention, emergency\u00a0preparedness\u00a0and vital records.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
