Rates of sexually transmitted infections have risen in Virginia and nationwide in recent years. CHD emphasizes that early testing and treatment are key to keeping individuals and communities healthy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSexually transmitted infections often go unnoticed because many people never experience symptoms, which is why regular screening and open conversations about sexual health are essential,\u201d said Crater District Health Director, Dr. Alton Hart, Jr. \u201dEveryone deserves respectful, stigma\u2011free access to sexual healthcare, and CHD is committed to providing the tools, education, and support for our community stay healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>STI testing is one of the most important things you can do to protect your health. People who have an STI may still feel healthy and be unaware that they have an infection.\u00a0However, these infections can cause serious health problems and spread to others if left untreated. When you know your status, you have powerful information to keep you and your partners healthy.\u00a0Most infections can be cured and are treatable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why STI Awareness Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Many STIs have no symptoms, making regular screening essential.<\/li>\n<li>Early detection allows for effective treatment and reduces long\u2011term health complications.<\/li>\n<li>Open communication with partners helps reduce transmission and supports healthier relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing stigma encourages more people to seek care without fear or shame.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Local Services Available<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CHD offers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confidential STI testing and treatment-appointments are available at all health department locations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Petersburg Health Department offers a weekly walk-in STI clinic every Friday from 8:30 AM \u2013 10:30 AM (first come, first served)<\/li>\n<li>Men\u2019s Sexual Health Clinic is available at the Petersburg location on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, by appointment 804-863-1652<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Free Syphilis Self-Test kits available<\/li>\n<li>Free condoms and safer\u2011sex supplies<\/li>\n<li>Education and counseling on prevention and treatment<\/li>\n<li>HIV testing, reproductive health services, and referrals for PrEP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How Residents Can Participate<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedule an STI screening at CHD or Use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gettested.cdc.gov\/\"><strong>CDC testing site locator<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to find a testing site near you<\/li>\n<li>Talk with partners about sexual health<\/li>\n<li>Encourage friends and family to get tested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CHD encourages individuals to take proactive steps toward their sexual health during this week and beyond.
