This week is a time to honor the people who give their time and skills to help keep our communities healthy and safe.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the Rappahannock-Rapidan Medical Reserve Corps (RRMRC) gave more than 900 hours of their time to support public health in Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District. In recent months, RRMRC volunteers have attended community tabling events in which they shared the Stroke Smart initiative and offered opioid education and naloxone training. RRMRC volunteers have also provided education on rabies prevention to elementary school students, facilitated a winter preparedness bingo activity at senior centers to promote winter safety, and instructed a Basic Life Support class at a local church. RRMRC volunteers worked in the clinic office preparing clinic records for the Record Retention Program to electronic records allowing staff to focus on essential clinical and program functions. RRMRC volunteers are also capable and ready to assist the local health district with Spanish interpretation services, administrative support, clinical services and emergency preparedness exercises.<\/p>\n<p>During National Volunteer Week, the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District proudly recognizes our Medical Reserve Corps volunteers for their unwavering dedication to protecting and strengthening our community,\u201d said Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District Director J. Carr, M.D. \u201cTheir service, compassion, and readiness make a lasting impact on public health every day. We are deeply grateful for their commitment.<\/p>\n<p>Created in 2002; the MRC is a national network of volunteers made up of medical and non-medical community members who support public health. Virginia has 25 local MRC units with more than 22,000 volunteers. These volunteers help with many public health needs, from daily outreach to major emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>While National Volunteer Week lasts only seven days, the work of MRC volunteers is felt all year long. Their service helps protect health, support emergency response and strengthen community resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who wants to give back to our community can join the MRC.
