The theme for National Nurses Week 2026 is \u201cThe Power of Nurses.\u201d Through expertise and compassion, RHHD nurses share the power to heal, turn fear into calm, promote health equity, support the well-being of the community, and change lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe power of a nurse is strength in care, courage in action, and compassion that heals,\u201d said Eastern Henrico Health District Public Health Nurse Supervisor Shuryl Thompson. \u201cPublic health nurses turn prevention into power\u2014protecting communities before illness begins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RHHD\u2019s award-winning nurses serve their communities in clinics, resource centers, schools and at community events. RHHD nurses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide vaccinations at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/clinical-services\/\">clinics<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/childhood-immunization\/\">children<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/immunization-program\/\">adults<\/a> without health insurance<\/li>\n<li>Meet students where they are to provide in-school <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/childhood-immunization\/\">vaccinations<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Provide vaccinations and screenings to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/sample-page\/programs\/new-americans-refugee-services\/\">newcomers and refugees<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Screen people for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/stihiv-prevention-program\/\">sexually transmitted infections<\/a> (STIs) and teach people about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/disease-prevention\/prep-and-npep\/\">PrEP<\/a>, a medication that prevents the spread of HIV<\/li>\n<li>Screen people and facilitate treatment for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/tuberculosis-program\/\">tuberculosis<\/a> (TB)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/henrico.gov\/services\/long-termpersonal-care-assessment-services\/\">Screen community members<\/a> seeking care at home or in specialized settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As highlighted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/RHHD-2025-Annual-Report-508.pdf\">RHHD 2025 Annual Report<\/a>, RHHD nurses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provided 14,658 vaccinations at clinics and community and school events<\/li>\n<li>Provided 325 health screenings for newcomers from nine countries<\/li>\n<li>Conducted 4,216 Family Planning and STI clinic visits<\/li>\n<li>Enrolled 90 new pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) clients<\/li>\n<li>Managed and treated 27 active tuberculosis cases and 269 latent tuberculosis infections<\/li>\n<li>Screened 1663 people for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmas.virginia.gov\/for-providers\/benefits-services-for-providers\/long-term-care\/programs-and-initiatives\/ltss-screening\/\">long-term services and supports<\/a> eligibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/rhhd.gov\/\">rhhd.gov<\/a> for more health and safety information.
