Human immunodeficiency virus (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/hiv\/about\/index.html\">HIV)<\/a> is a sexually transmitted infection (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/sti\/index.html\">STI<\/a>) and can also spread through injection drug use. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/hiv\/about\/index.html#cdc_disease_basics_testing_screening-testing\">everyone ages 13 \u2013 64<\/a> should get tested for HIV at least once. People with certain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiv.gov\/hiv-basics\/hiv-testing\/learn-about-hiv-testing\/who-should-get-tested\">risk factors<\/a> should get tested more often.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProtecting your sexual health is self-care,\u201d said Richmond and Henrico Health Districts STI\/HIV Prevention Supervisor Stephanie Mbengue. \u201cRichmond and Henrico Health Districts are here to support you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HIV testing is available through a healthcare provider\u2019s office, local health departments, pharmacies, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/stihiv-prevention-program\/#sti-partners\">community organizations<\/a>. To find a testing facility near you, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/vadoh.myresourcedirectory.com\/index.php?option=com_cpx&amp;common_id=1982&amp;task=search.query&amp;code=LF-4900.2400%2C+LF-4900.8000&amp;name=HIV-and-STI-Testing-icon-group\">rhhd.gov\/VA-HIV-testing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>STI\/HIV services at RHHD clinics<\/h2>\n<p>RHHD offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/clinical-services\/\">clinic-based<\/a> STI screening and HIV testing appointments at its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/clinical-services\/\">Cary St.<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/henrico.gov\/locations\/east-health-clinic\/\">Henrico East<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/henrico.us\/locations\/human-services\/\">Henrico West<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/resource-centers\/\">Mosby Resource Center<\/a> clinics. Appointment times vary by location and are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are no walk-in appointments available. Fees may apply.<\/p>\n<p>RHHD offers pre-exposure prophylaxis (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiv.gov\/hiv-basics\/hiv-prevention\/using-hiv-medication-to-reduce-risk\/pre-exposure-prophylaxis\">PrEP<\/a>) services at its <a href=\"https:\/\/henrico.gov\/locations\/east-health-clinic\/\">Henrico East<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/richmond-city\/clinical-services\/\">Cary St.<\/a> clinics. PrEP is a medication that reduces a person&#8217;s chances of contracting HIV. Virginia residents who want to know if PrEP is right for them should call the RHHD PrEP team at 804-482-5493 and leave a voicemail.
