This remote protocol has improved access to preventive dental services for those at highest risk of dental disease, as well as reduced barriers and costs for dental care for low-income individuals. In 2018, as a result of the success of this VDH program, remote supervision practice was extended to safety-net providers across the commonwealth working in approved settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Services:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Low-income schoolchildren in targeted areas of the state can receive the following dental services with parental consent: oral health assessment, dental cleanings, dental sealants, fluoride varnish application, dental referral information, and oral health education.<\/li>\n<li>Established school-based dental sealant programs are located in: Cumberland Plateau, Lord Fairfax, Southside, Lenowisco, Mt. Rogers, Piedmont, Hampton, Peninsula, Crater, Central Virginia, Alleghany, Roanoke, Three Rivers, and Richmond City Health Districts.\n<ul>\n<li>The dental sealant program is offered to selected high-risk schools that have at least 50% of their students participating in the National School Lunch Program.<\/li>\n<li>Once a high-risk school is identified, all students in grades Pre-K to sixth grade are eligible for the Dental Preventive Services Program.<\/li>\n<li>Sealants placed are evaluated the following school year for retention rates, with repairs as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Parents receive a list of area dental practices\/community clinics for referral for treatment needs and to assist in establishing a dental home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Training<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Topic: <\/strong>Dental Preventive Services Program Information<br \/>\n<strong>Target Audience:<\/strong> School superintendents, principals, and school nurses<br \/>\n<strong>How is the training provided? <\/strong>In person -
