The General Assembly passes legislation that then becomes law and is incorporated in to the <em><strong>Code of Virginia<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Regulations<\/b> provide specific requirements that are authorized or required by law. State agencies seek comments from the public and those interested parties who are affected by how a law is implemented.\u00a0 This process is called the <strong>Administrative Process Act<\/strong>. All regulations are complied into a single document called the <em><strong>Virginia Administrative Code.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Radiation Laws<\/h2>\n<p>The State&#8217;s primary statutory authority for a radiation control program is designated the Radiation Control Act and is defined in the <strong><em>Code of Virginia<\/em><\/strong> Section 32.1-227 et. al.<\/p>\n<p>The following link will take you to a searchable database at the <a href=\"http:\/\/leg1.state.va.us\/000\/src.htm\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Code of Virginia<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following links are specific sections of the Radiation Control Act:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/title32.1\/chapter6\/section32.1-227\/\">\u00a7 32.1-227. Impounding sources of ionizing radiation.<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are additional laws in the <em><strong>Code of Virginia<\/strong><\/em> that address radiological issues, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/18.2-321\/\">Using X ray, fluoroscope, etc., in the fitting of footwear \u00a7 18.2-321.<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><em>It shall be unlawful for any person to use any X ray, fluoroscope, or other equipment or apparatus employing roentgen rays, in the fitting of shoes or other footwear. This section shall not apply to any licensed physician or surgeon in the practice of his profession. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Regulations<\/h2>\n<p>The Radiation Protections Regulations are included in the <em><strong>Virginia Administrative Code<\/strong><\/em> (VAC), which is a compilation of all state regulations.\u00a0 The designation for the initial regulation (1988) was 12VAC5-480.
