A sports physical can help student athletes find out about and deal with health problems that might affect their performance or increase their chances of being injured. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Where to get sports physicals<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245418&quot;:true,&quot;134245529&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Your athlete\u2019s\u00a0regular doctor can perform a sports physical<\/strong> at the same time as an annual wellness visit. Mention that you need a sports physical and a regular checkup so your doctor can set aside time to do both. If your athlete has had had a recent visit with the doctor, you may be able to drop off the form for the doctor to fill out.\u00a0<strong>In addition, most local urgent cares and pharmacy clinics offer sports physicals for an extra fee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">What to know about sports physicals<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245418&quot;:true,&quot;134245529&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Student athletes must give pages 1-3 of the\u00a0<a id=\"OWA39a38ddc-79ce-c892-d031-76406b0ad922\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/vhsl-physical-form\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">VHSL sports physical form<\/a>\u00a0to their school to be allowed to participate in VHSL sports. The physical form expires 14 months from the date of the healthcare provider\u2019s signature on the medical eligibility page (page 3).<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>The parent\/guardian must complete all sections of the VHSL form before their sports physical, except the medical eligibility page (page 3) and physical examination (page 6). The physical will not be performed if the rest of the form is not filled out entirely! The student and parent\/guardian must sign the form as well.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/2025\/05\/2025_ES-VHSL-Sports-Forms-PACKET.pdf\">VHSL sports physical form is also available in Spanish<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Most insurance plans cover sports physicals if they are done at the same time as an annual wellness visit. Some insurance plans may cover a separate visit for a sports physical; all Virginia Medicaid Managed Care plans do.
