Applications<\/a>\u00a0are now open for the Richmond Health Equity Fund 2024-2025 cycle! The deadline\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0submit applications is June 23, 2024.<\/p>\n

Richmond is a city of health disparity. Census data show how\u00a0extreme heat<\/a>, mental health challenges, and lack of access\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0healthy foods all echo\u00a0city redlining<\/a>, when banks and city institutions used discriminatory lending practices\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0keep Richmond neighborhoods segregated.<\/p>\n

Addressing health disparities requires a willingness\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0look at these histories and\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0take on some of the most challenging issues facing our city\u00a0to<\/span>day: housing, food access, chronic disease, and maternal health. All over the city, organizations and community leaders are rising\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0these challenges. And\u00a0the Richmond Health Equity Fund (HEF)<\/a>\u00a0is here\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0help them take on this necessary work!<\/p>\n

The HEF invests in programs, initiatives, and leaders working\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0improve health and quality of life in communities experiencing deep health disparities and the longstanding impacts of racism. While HEF support is financial, Program Officer\u00a0Shaleetta Drawbaugh<\/a>\u00a0also works closely with selected partners on program development. \u201cWhat I like about the HEF is that we roll up our sleeves and work alongside the partner\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0create a bridge into critical gap-filling funding,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

The HEF has already supported community work with partners like\u00a0Daily Planet Health Services<\/a>,\u00a0Gateway Community Health<\/a>,\u00a0Virginia Prison Birth Project<\/a>,\u00a0Urban Baby Beginnings,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Waymakers Foundation<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n

Any community leader, collaborative, or organization working in the City of Richmond on any of the following health disparity focus areas is eligible\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0apply:<\/p>\n
