In the U.S., approximately\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dss.virginia.gov\/family\/safe_sleep.cgi#:~:text=Safe%20Sleep%20for%20Babies.%20Approximately%203,700%20infants%20die%20in%20the\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3,700 infants die every year<\/a>\u00a0from sleep-related deaths, the largest percentage of non-natural infant deaths.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">No one should lose a child. We can take steps to keep our tiniest community members safe and healthy while they sleep!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do I need to do?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The national\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/safetosleep.nichd.nih.gov\/reduce-risk\/reduce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safe to Sleep campaign<\/a>\u00a0shares a lot of great information about ways to reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related deaths. Here are just a few steps you can take:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Always place babies on their backs for naps and at night when they go to sleep.<\/li>\n<li lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Make sure the sleep surface is firm, flat, level, and covered only with a fitted sheet.<\/li>\n<li lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Remove any extra items in the sleep area\u2014this includes soft objects, toys, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/05\/18\/1099864522\/infant-deaths-new-law-bans-baby-sleep-products#:~:text=President%20Biden%20signed%20the%20Safe%20Sleep%20for%20Babies%20Act%20of\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crib bumpers<\/a>.
