The Division of Surveillance and Investigation compiles monthly morbidity reports for most reportable conditions in Virginia. Data are updated on the 15th of each month. Laboratories, medical providers, and local health departments report data on persons with a reportable disease. These data are entered into the Virginia Electronic Disease Surveillance System (VEDSS) or Enhanced HIV\/AIDS Reporting System (eHARS) and sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) if nationally reportable. Surveillance data enable public health agencies to act quickly to prevent the spread of disease, identify and respond to outbreaks, and provide an overall snapshot of disease trends at the local, state, and national levels.<\/p>\n

This monthly report summarizes the burden and trends for select reportable diseases reported by local health jurisdictions to VDH. It includes the current number of cases compared to the 5-year average by reportable condition by selected health district or the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>
