The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps is comprised of health care professionals and community members committed to sharing their time and talents to support the public health community in Southwest Virginia. Established in 2004, this volunteer organization is 1 of 759 units in the national network.

Since March 12, 2020, the Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps have been active in EVERY aspect of the COVID-19 response – call centers, mental wellness support, clerical support, Infection Prevention Ambassadors at election stations, testing, patient monitoring, packing and distributing critical infection control supplies, contact tracing, testing and vaccination clinics. As of May 1, 2021, over 400 volunteers have provided in excess of 110,500 hours of service.

Practicing, license, retired health care professionals, as well as community members with non-medical skills, who live and/or work in the Cumberland Plateau, Lenowisco and Mount Rogers Health Districts, are encouraged to consider membership. Those interested in joining must complete an application, orientation and a background screening. Once approved, volunteers will be ready to respond.

Please contact the Unit Coordinator by clicking the Contact Information tab on the left for more information or to submit questions.

Membership in the Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps requires the following:

A. Completed application
B. Copy of medical licensure (if applicable)
C. Volunteer Orientation and Initial Training
D. Background Screening (no cost to volunteer). FYI – Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, orientation and initial training is offered on-line and through ZOOM sessions.
