{"id":353,"date":"2020-06-24T09:32:43","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T13:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/waterborne-hazards-control\/?page_id=353"},"modified":"2024-05-06T12:18:57","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T16:18:57","slug":"vibrio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/waterborne-hazards-control\/recreational-water-illnesses\/vibrio\/","title":{"rendered":"Vibrio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vibrios are naturally occurring bacteria in salt or brackish (mix of salt and fresh) water.\u00a0 The presence of Vibrios in water is not a sign of contamination by sewage or pollution.\u00a0 In Virginia, Vibrios may be found in the ocean, Chesapeake Bay, and rivers which empty into the bay or ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Wound infections caused by Vibrios are uncommon in Virginia, but can be serious.
