2024 Immunization Schedules

On January 11, CDC published in MMWR summarizing the 2024 revisions to the U.S. Child and Adolescents immunization schedules. The updated schedules for children and adolescents include multiple new vaccine recommendations made by ACIP during 2023, including:
  • Nirsevimab RSV preventive antibody for infants
  • 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine as an option
  • Mpox vaccine for certain 18-year-olds with behavioral risks
  • RSV vaccine for certain pregnant teens
  • Pentavalent meningococcal ABCWY vaccine as an option when MenB and MenACWY are indicated
  • Updates related to previously recommended vaccines, including COVID-19, influenza, and poliovirus

COVID-19 Minimum Order Quantity

CDC’s Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report, FluView, provides a valuable snapshot of influenza activity state-by-state.
Coverage for all children is 3.5 percentage points lower this season compared with the same time last season (47.8% compared with 51.3%). Coverage this season so far is 9.6 percentage points lower compared with pre-pandemic coverage at the same time in January 2020 (57.4%).

New Vaccine Information Statements

A new Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) for COVID-19 vaccine and an updated VIS for RSV vaccine have been posted on the CDC website.

Stay Alert for Measles Cases

Between December 1, 2023, and January 23, 2024, CDC was notified of 23 confirmed U.S. cases of measles, including seven direct importations of measles by international travelers and two outbreaks with more than five cases each. Most of these cases were among children and adolescents who had not received a measles-containing vaccine. Watch for patients with febrile rash and symptoms of measles (e.g., cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis).

  • RSV vaccine selectively for older adults and during pregnancy
  • Mpox vaccine for certain adults with behavioral risk factors
  • Pentavalent meningococcal ABCWY vaccine as an option when MenB and MenACWY vaccines are due
  • Updates related to previously recommended vaccines, including COVID-19, influenza, and poliovirus
