New Acronyms
Existing field staff who assess compliance for Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults (VFA) are now called Virginia Vaccines Quality Assurance (VVQA) consultants. Virginia Vaccine Supply and Assessment (VVSA) oversees Virginia’s VFC and VFA programs. The Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults (VFA) websites have been updated.

New Medicaid HMOs
Virginia Medicaid health plans are changing. INTotal Health is now owned by United Health Care. Virginia Premier is collaborating with Kaiser Permanente.

Adolescent Toolkit
On August 24, CDC published National, Regional, State, and Selected Local Area Vaccination Coverage Among Adolescents Aged 13–17 Years. Vaccination rates for some adolescent vaccines remain below Healthy People 2020 goals, leaving millions of adolescents vulnerable to serious health risks. A toolkit which offers a selection of resources and insight into activities and strategies to enhance and improve the delivery of vaccinations throughout adolescence, from middle school to college is located here: https://www.immunizationmanagers.org/page/adolescents

Flu Vaccine Still Available
Injectable and intranasal flu vaccine presentations are available. Please notify Susan Kocen in the VVSA Order Center if you need vaccine.

Flu Pre-Book
Flu Pre-books for the 2019-20 Influenza season will be solicited when available presentations are determined. The pre-book will begin in January 2019.

Flu Borrowing
For seasonal influenza vaccine, providers may use private-stock seasonal influenza vaccine to vaccinate VFC-eligible children. Those private stock doses used on VFC-eligible children can later be replaced when VFC stock becomes available. This one directional borrowing exception is unique to seasonal influenza vaccine

Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B Vaccine Resource
|
|
Hep A outbreaks are occurring in multiple states across the U.S. increasing awareness of the importance of protection through Hep A vaccine. The Immunization Action Coalition (IAC) recently revised its resource for healthcare professionals titled Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B Vaccines: Be Sure Your Patients Get the Correct Dose.
