Leading Change in Aging: Expanding Age Advocacy with ASA RISE
Everyone is aging, but not everyone sees themselves in the movement for age equity. Join us to learn about new findings and best practices to help expand and grow this important work.
With support from the RRF Foundation for Aging, VCU Gerontology and the Old School Hub recently created the Expanding Age Advocacy Guide to Action to help build an age equity movement that represents us all. On 2025’s Ageism Awareness Day Oct. 9 at noon, you are invited to hear findings and and learn about a key example of a program-based solution: American Society on Aging’s ASA RISE.
This panel crosswalks the findings of Expanding Age Advocacy Guide to Action with the practice and impact of ASA RISE. Panelists will illustrate how ASA RISE embodies the Guide’s recommendations and where additional action is needed to sustain and scale equitable age advocacy.
Together, the panelists’ stories and insights will help us answer some key questions:
- How do we ensure equity is at the center of age advocacy, not an afterthought?
- What does effective leadership development look like in practice?
- How do we shift the narratives that hold ageism and inequity in place?
- And how can we sustain movements, not just moments, of advocacy?
This session is both reflection and action — connecting what the research calls for with what leaders are building on the ground.
