Person-Centered Dementia Care: Say What? Re-Learning Communication
In this session, we will look at what person-centered communication looks like, with people with dementia and among people working in a nursing home. What can we learn and unlearn?
The way we communicate with each other can make or break a person’s day. It can mean the difference between understanding what a person needs and not meeting their needs. It can cause a person to feel seen or heard, or not. We have the power to do that!
This is true for how we communicate with people with dementia and with each other, as team members.
In this session we will dive into how we can communicate in ways that truly seek to understand, so that people with dementia can live well, and we can work well.
This 120-minute interactive webinar invites everyone working in a Virginia nursing home—CNAs, nurses, social workers, activity staff, administrators, dietary staff, housekeeping… YOU—to take a deep dive into person-centered, dementia care best practices.
Expect bold ideas, practical tools, real-life stories—and a space to think differently and plan for something new. No matter where you are on your person-centered care journey, there’s more to discover.
And we’re not done yet.
A month later, we’ll continue learning and growing together as we host “Huddle Up”—a follow-up jam session to reconnect, ask questions, share what worked (and what didn’t) and keep the momentum going.
Huddle Up — A Follow-Up Jam Session
Wednesday, Nov. 12 | 1 – 2 p.m. ET
In collaboration with the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) as part of the agency’s Nursing Facility Quality Improvement Program (NFQIP).
