Trauma Healing Response Network (THRN) and The City of Richmond Department of Justice Services kicks off the school year with a Back 2 School Bash that you won’t want to miss! This isn’t just another event, it’s an evening designed to remove real barriers that too many students and families face at the start of the school year and beyond.
Lorraine Wright, RHHD’s Violence Prevention Program Manager, and RHHD invite you to join us for an afternoon of great food, fresh haircuts, fun games, and giveaways, all at no cost! We have gathered clear backpacks with school supplies to meet the new Richmond Public School requirement. We will also have on-site mental health support, opportunities for restoration of rights, and a whole lot of love from your community.
Whether you’re coming to get ready for the classroom or just to connect with neighbors, there will be something here for everyone. Bring the whole family and let’s make sure every student starts the school year feeling confident, cared for, and celebrated!

“When we address violence as the public health issue it is, our approach should not look like traditional approaches. The only way we can prevent violence is by intentionally building peace and giving focus to the systemic issues that prevent folks from being able to live well. We are redefining systems of care, by building community, repairing harm and making resources accessible.” – Lorraine Wright
About THRN: Trauma Healing Response Network (THRN) brings together more than 50 community partners working to prevent firearm injury across Richmond City. Because Richmond declared gun violence a public health crisis in 2021, the city generously funded the network to create a system of care for communities experiencing firearm violence. THRN partners provide critical support following a firearm incident. They make sure impacted residents are equipped with both day-to-day necessities as well as opportunities to process their experience, whether at school, at home or in safe community spaces.
