VDH Clinician Letter: Interim Recommendations for the Management of Healthcare Personnel Exposed to or Infected with COVID-19 or Seasonal Influenza (09/30/2025)

VDH is providing updated recommendations for the management of healthcare personnel (HCP) exposed to or infected with COVID-19 or seasonal influenza. Healthcare facilities should evaluate VDH recommendations and consider updating HCP return to work and management guidance. These recommendations are not regulatory requirements or mandates.

USPHS: • Updated US Public Health Service Guidelines for the Management of Occupational Exposures to Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Recommendations for Postexposure Prophylaxis (09/15/2025)

These recommendations replace the 2013 guidelines. New recommendations include: (1) new antiretroviral drug regimens for postexposure prophylaxis (PEP); (2) a shortened duration of post-exposure follow-up HIV testing; (3) elimination of routine laboratory tests for antiretroviral drug toxicity; and (4) considerations for PEP for healthcare personnel with exposures to source patients with undetectable viral loads.

CDC: Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Measles (8/19/2025)

  • This updated webpage provides fundamental elements to prevent measles transmission within healthcare facilities.
  • Healthcare personnel (HCP) immunization is highlighted as a first-line defense as well as the rapid identification and isolation of patients with suspected/confirmed measles. HCP education on respiratory protection and hand hygiene are also mentioned.

VDH Clinician Letter: COVID-19 Reporting Updates (3/17/2025)

  • Provides updates on COVID-19 disease reporting and control regulations related to a variance the State Health Commissioner recently signed.
  • Physicians, persons in charge of medical care facilities, and local health directors are no longer required to report suspected or confirmed individual cases of COVID-19.
  • Directors of laboratories are still required to report, and all suspected or confirmed outbreaks must still be reported.
