Crater Health District and Prince George County to Host Spring into Great Health Fair
A Free Community Resource Event

 

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – The Crater Health District (CHD) and the Virginia Department of Health, in partnership with Prince George County, are excited to announce the Spring into Great Health Fair. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Prince George High School, 7801 Laurel Spring Rd, Prince George, VA 23875. This free event is open to all members of the community and aims to provide health resources and services, along with family-friendly activities.

The Spring into Great Health Fair will offer a variety of on-site health screenings and vaccinations, including hearing, speech, vision, dental, Child Finds (ASQs), 7th & 12th grade immunizations, A1C (glucose) screenings, and blood pressure checks. These services are designed to help individuals take proactive steps toward managing their health and well-being.

“Our CHD staff and Prince George community partners look forward to offering valuable health services and connecting our community to local resources,” said Alton Hart, Jr., MD, MPH, MDiv. Crater District Health Director. “This event will feature over 50 vendors, essential health screenings, and resources for everyone in the community. We are committed to promoting healthy living and encourage everyone to join us for a day filled with health, fun, and education.”

By bringing together free health screenings, immunizations, and community resources in one location, we’re making it easier for families to access and prioritize their health,” said Chairman Floyd M. Brown Jr., PG County Board of Supervisors. “Prince George County has always been a welcoming community focused on building a prosperous future for residents, and this collaborative event reflects our commitment to fostering a culture of wellness, ensuring our community has access to the services and information they need to lead healthy lives.”

In addition to the health screenings, the fair will feature many family-friendly activities, over 50 local community resources, food trucks, and grocery giveaways. Free food giveaways are provided by Goodr, Feed More, Waymakers Foundation, and Justin J. Davis Heart Foundation.

Crater Health District and Surry County Partners to Host Community Resource Event

SURRY, Va. – The Virginia Department of Health’s Crater Health District (CHD) along with the Surry County Government and Farmers Market have partnered to present Surry Summer Health Camp Day. The community resource fair will be held on Friday, June 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Surry Parks and Recreation Center located at 205 Enos Farm Drive, Surry.

CHD encourages the community to come out and be active by engaging in various sports and outdoor activities. The event will help individuals connect with local resources and learn about overdose prevention, healthy eating habits, and general emergency preparedness and chronic disease prevention.

“Our staff and Surry community partners look forward to sharing important information and resources while promoting healthy living,” said Crater District Health District Director Alton Hart, Jr., MD, MPH. “We invite everyone from Surry County and the surrounding region to join us at this community event featuring entertainment and valuable resources for all.”

Health services will be offered such as select immunizations (7th and 12th) required for school entry and Sports Physicals Health Checks, school physicals. Please bring a valid form of identification, insurance card, and vaccine record with you.  Additional health screenings available include BP, glucose, and BMI checks.

“We are excited to bring together various resources provided by different organizations that know and understand the needs of Surry County residents,” said Senior Epidemiologist E. Katrina Saphrey, MPH. “The vendors represented will provide an array of resources with a focus on substance use education and overdose prevention, healthy lifestyles, heart health, mental health, and increased vaccination efforts, which are all health indicators that were identified in Surry’s Community Health Assessment as areas of concern. We have a jammed packed day filled with activities where families can have fun in the sun. Come join us for a healthy kickoff to summer!”
