Child Development Center Services

boyAt the Rappahannock Area Child Development Center (RACDC), we provide comprehensive, interdisciplinary developmental services (primarily Comprehensive Developmental Evaluations) to appropriate children aged birth to 21-years-old to promote their optimal physical, social, mental, and emotional development and well-being. Specifically, we provide evaluative, referral, case management, and other services for children who have, or are at risk for, chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions who require unique health, psychosocial, and other interventions.

At the RACDC, we also provide Screening for the Developmental Disabilities Medicaid Waiver and counseling services to select children and families. Within the community, we provide training and support for parents & families, teachers, and other professionals. Our community programs of outreach, advocacy, and consultation focus on the promotion of healthy growth, development, and adjustment of ALL CHILDREN. Our Interdisciplinary Team consists of a Medical Doctor, Psychologist, Social Worker, Nurse, and Educational Consultant. We work closely with the family to form diagnostic impressions and provide subsequent treatment recommendations, care planning, follow-up care coordination, referral, and intervention services.

History and Funding

The CDC programs were started in Virginia in 1955 to provide medical evaluations to children with learning problems. As part of this effort, the Rappahannock Area Child Development Center opened in 1974. The CDCs are funded through public and private sources, including a portion of the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Program, federal Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant, state general funds, and individual revenue sources (patient fees, DMAS/Medicaid, donations, etc.). RACDC services are provided on a sliding scale basis for low to no cost depending upon the financial situation of the family.

Eligibility

Referrals to the RACDC may be made by individual family members, schools, physicians, local health departments, social services, and other community and professional agencies. The interdisciplinary team members may be available to assist local agencies and programs in screening children for developmental disorders and related conditions and for providing other outreach services. Children served at the RACDC must be residents of Virginia and under 21 years of age. Families of all income levels are eligible and welcome for services, and charges, the sliding fee schedule, and payment procedures are discussed in advance. RACDC services are provided on a sliding scale basis for low to no cost depending upon the financial situation of the family. We are a Medicaid provider. Please call for additional Medicaid/Medicaid HMO provider information and participation.
