Virginia Department of Health Brings Families Together for Bear-y Best Start Resource Fair
RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Office of Vital Records (OVR), in collaboration with local community partners, is excited to welcome families to a special event created to help parents and caregivers prepare for life with a new baby. The Bear-y Best Start Resource Fair will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway.
“We know those early months can feel overwhelming, and parents deserve to know they’re not alone,” said Celes Davis, Chief Deputy State Registrar for the Commonwealth of Virginia. “Events like this help ensure families have the knowledge and community support needed to give every child the healthiest possible start.”
This free event will bring together over 60 participating organizations and vendors, including health experts, to connect participants to essential resources in one convenient location.
Event features include:
- Demonstrations on newborn care and infant CPR
- Direct access to trusted health professionals
- Information on health, safety, and early childhood development
- Connections to local community resources and support programs
- Giveaways and a free raffle
“This resource fair is all about building stronger, healthier communities by making sure every family has access to the information, tools, and support they need,” said Office of Vital Records Field Services Representative Lisa Cauthorne. “We’re so proud to partner with organizations and businesses across the region to create a space where families feel informed, connected, and uplifted.”
