NDPH offers confidential testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV, as well as treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Nurse or provider visits for testing and treatment are available on a sliding scale fee based on income. STI and HIV testing completed during “Test and Go” clinic hours is provided at no cost. All services are delivered in a confidential, respectful, and judgment-free environment.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)
PrEP is a safe and effective way to prevent HIV. At NDPH, we offer multiple PrEP options and help you choose what works best for you—whether you have insurance or not.
Daily PrEP Pills: Truvada, Descovy, Generic Truvada
Injectable PrEP: Apretude (long-acting injection)
PrEP for Uninsured Patients
Same Day PrEP
Uninsured patients may be eligible for Same Day PrEP, which allows you to start generic Truvada the same day as your visit after a negative rapid HIV test.
- A 30-day supply is provided at the first visit
- All required lab work is completed the same day
- Ongoing PrEP is available for $6.75 per 30-day supply
Apretude for Uninsured Patients
Uninsured patients may also qualify for Apretude injections through assistance programs offered by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) or ViiV Connect. Many patients receive Apretude at little to no cost.
PrEP for Insured Patients
If you have insurance, we offer Same Day PrEP (generic Truvada), Truvada, Descovy, and Apretude. Our team will work with your insurance provider to help identify the most affordable and appropriate option.
What to Expect at Your PrEP Visits
First Visit (Intake)
Your first visit typically lasts 1–1.5 hours and includes a visit with a nurse, medical provider, and PrEP Navigator. HIV and STI testing will be completed. Please bring a photo ID, insurance card (if applicable), proof of Virginia residency, and proof of income.
One-Month Follow-Up
About 3–4 weeks after starting PrEP, you will return for a follow-up HIV test, medication refill or additional supply, and brief blood work.
Routine Visits
Routine visits include HIV and STI testing, lab monitoring, medication refills, and ongoing support from the PrEP team.
Yearly Visit
Once a year, you will have a visit similar to a routine appointment, with additional testing to support your long-term health.
