This is an aid for facilities to determine if, by the nature of their services, they need to establish a respiratory protection program (RPP). The site, based on the premise that most facilities that provide any kind of care do need a RPP.
Infections & Organisms: Respiratory Infections
N95 Respiratory Protection Training
This is a 26-page presentation that explains how to set up a respiratory protection training program, what the OSHA requirements for a Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) are; how to don and doff a respirator and how to conduct a respirator fit testing program. It also has slides that show the different ways that the respirator protects from inhalation airborne pathogens or substances.
Respiratory Protection in the Workplace – Respirator Fit Testing
This is a 21-page presentation that explains how to set up a respiratory protection training program, what the OSHA requirements for a Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) are; how to don and doff a respirator and how to conduct a respirator fit testing program. It also addresses how the Virginia standards support the OSHA requirements.
N95 Respiratory Protection Training (with audio for annual training)
This is a 15-page presentation with audio recording that explains how to set up a respiratory protection training program, what the OSHA requirements for a Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) are; how to don and doff a respirator and how to conduct a respirator fit testing program.
Written Respiratory Protection Plan Template
This document was prepared by the Virginia Department of Health to serve as a template for medical offices/organizations where respirators are used to develop and implement their written respiratory protection program as required by the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). Throughout the template, there are technical and editorial notes that do not need to be retained but are meant to guide individualizing the plan. It includes the following appendices: 1) list of employees using respirators; 2) Medical questionnaire; 3) Work factors for respirator use; 4) Medical recommendation for respirator use; 5) Respirator Fit-test record; 6) Information for employees using respirators when not required under the OSHA standard; 7) References.
Legionella Prevention & Control Webinar
This is a webinar intended for infection preventionists in Virginia, that provides information that can be valuable to infection preventionists in other states. It reviews the natural history of Legionella infections, how to reduce the risk, how to diagnose cases, and how to remediate if surveillance testing or cases occur.
Legionella Environmental Assessment Form (LEAF)
This fillable form can be used to document a facility’s water systems, help determine whether to conduct Legionella environmental sampling, and, if so, develop a sampling plan. An accompanying guide provides instructions and additional considerations for using the fillable form. The guide helps the evaluation team to understand form questions and also more fully assess potential risks in the facility’s water system. The form is available at: https://www.cdc.gov/legionella/downloads/legionella-environmental-assessment-marking-guide-508.pdf
Infection Control Actions for Respiratory Viruses
This is a 2-paged infographic that shows how respiratory viruses are transmitted, how masks and respirators reduce risk and how hand hygiene and disinfecting surfaces are other behaviors that reduce risk
Pneumonia (part of SHEA Prevention CHKC)
This is a module that is part of the SHEA Prevention CHKC Course (Course in Healthcare Associated Knowledge and Control). It focuses on best practices for preventing and detecting pneumonias. It provides the learner with an overview of when to use different options for respiratory support, and how to differentiate the different types of pneumonia.
