2021 Annual Retailer Training

Training Required Actions - DUE Friday, August 20, 2021
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Federal regulation 246.12, each WIC-authorized store has to designate a manager or representative to complete and verify annual refresher training. To verify the annual training complete actions below:

  1. Read the 2021 Annual Retailer Bulletin Training Edition in its entirety.
  2. Acknowledge that you have completed your annual training:
    For “individual” stores (stores without a Certified Trainer) - Complete the survey with store WIC ID number at this link:
    For “corporate” stores (stores with a Certified Trainer) - Follow the instructions sent to you by your Certified Trainer;
    For Certified Trainers: Refer to email with instructions sent to your parent company with subject title “2021 VA WIC Annual Training”. If you have not received instructions from the State WIC Office please contact Alex Acharya,
  3. Share this special edition with other store personnel (i.e. cashiers, bookkeepers, and customer service managers).
  4. Complete your annual Conflict of Interest review Conflict of Interest Training Handout.

NEW! 2022 WIC Food List

The Virginia WIC Program is accepting applications for the 2022 WIC Food List from May 3, 2021 to July 30, 2021.  An online WIC food application worksheet can be found HERE.

Temporary Eggs Waiver Due to COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, eggs have been reported to be one of the most difficult to locate at the grocery stores.  USDA has given us the green light to allow additional sizes of eggs at this time.

We will allow one dozen medium, large, extra-large and jumbo sizes of white or brown, regular or organic eggs to be temporarily added until further notice.


  • Medium, Large, Extra-Large or Jumbo size eggs
  • White or Brown
  • Regular or Organic


    • Cage Free
    • Free Range
    • Fat/Cholesterol Altering Eggs (Eggsland’s Best)

Complete an UPC Request Form and submit your new item to along with a product image attached.

Temporary Milk Waiver Due to COVID-19

The Virginia WIC Program has learned that a significant number of WIC retailers are having trouble in maintaining certain inventory of WIC eligible milk products for participants due to the COVID-19 crisis. As a result, USDA has approved the temporary waiver for milk products.

If the prescribed milk product is unavailable for purchase, WIC participants can substitute other milk products as shown below:

  • If WIC participants are prescribed Whole Milk, retailers are allowed to substitute regular, lactose-free whole milk or UHT whole
  • If WIC participants are prescribed Low-Fat/Fat-Free Milk, retailers are allowed to substitute skim (fat free), 1%, 2% regular, lactose-free or UHT milk.

This temporary milk waiver is effective March 31, 2020 until further notice.

Store cashiers should scan all milk items first to see if they can go through instead of telling a WIC participant that they are not WIC approved.
