Healthy Brain Virginia

Healthy Brain Initiative

The Healthy Brain Initiative was introduced in 2013 by the Alzheimer's Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The project acts as a call to arms and a guide for putting into practice a successful, coordinated strategy to raise awareness of brain health among the general public.

This program aims to enhance brain health, increase knowledge of early detection and rapid diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and promote risk-reduction strategies among minorities and underrepresented groups. This project is carried out with the support of:

What is the BOLD Initiative?

The CDC is providing financial assistance for this three-year project called Building Our Largest Dementia. The main objective of this program is to increase public awareness of risk reduction, early detection, prevention, and management of avoidable hospitalizations associated with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). The Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), the Alzheimer's Association, and other organizations have partnered with the Virginia Department of Health to lead this effort.
