(DANVILLE, Va.) – The Virginia Department of Health’s Pittsylvania/Danville Health District, with assistance from the Medical Reserve Corps, will hold a COVID-19 and influenza vaccination clinic Friday, October 8 at the Danville Community Market, 629 Craghead Street. This clinic will offer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. Influenza vaccinations will also be available. The clinic will start at 1 p.m. and go until 4 p.m. Persons wanting the influenza vaccine and a COVID-19 vaccination can get them both at the site. Walk ins welcome; no appointments needed.

This “point of dispensing” (POD) event is to provide the opportunity for those 12 to and up to receive a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination. Those under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present. For those seeking a Pfizer booster, please note the following CDC guidelines:

  • people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series,
  • people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series,
  • people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks, and
  • people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.

The influenza vaccine will be available for anyone 18 years of age and older.

“With the rise in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant, we strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated. The COVID-19 vaccines are designed to reduce severe illness, hospitalization and death.” said Pittsylvania/Danville and Southside Health Districts Health Director Scott J. Spillmann, MD, MPH.

“We also ask that everyone who attends the POD continue to follow the three Ws: Wear a mask, Watch your distance (stay at least six feet apart) and Wash your hands,” Dr. Spillmann said. “We will have areas for waiting at safe distances both before and after vaccination, and have arranged more private vaccination areas for those with special needs. We ask all who are to be vaccinated to please wear ‘vaccine ready’ clothing if possible (giving easy access to your upper arm) and that you arrive at your appointed time and bring the CDC vaccination card given to you with your first dose, or driver’s license or other documentation confirming your identity.”

The Pittsylvania/Danville Health District encourages all eligible persons to get their COVID-19 vaccine if they haven’t already done so.
