The Virginia Department of Health Rescinds Shellfishing Harvesting Order for a Portion of Broad Bay for Shellfish Harvesting
RICHMOND, Va.– The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced today that a portion of Broad Bay in Virginia Beach, previously closed to shellfish harvesting on November 10, 2025 due to a release of untreated sewage impacting water quality in the area, will reopen effective Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Testing of shellfish sample collected on 11/18 indicate the area is now safe for shellfish harvest and consumption, and suitable for reopening.
