Virginia’s 2025 Community Star Honored on National Rural Health Day
RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Health Equity and State Office of Rural Health is proud to announce Nick Chuquín, MSHA, FACHE, as Virginia’s 2025 Community Star. The national honor recognizes those individuals who make a significant impact in rural health care.
Earlier this month, Chuquín assumed the role as Vice President of Operations at Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) in Newport News, Virginia, the system’s flagship hospital. Prior to his new position, he had served as President of Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) since 2021. Throughout his career, he has worked to expand health services on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, especially in maternal care.
Chuquín along with other Community Stars from across the country, will be featured on PowerOfRural.org. In addition, he will be honored at the Virginia Rural Health Association’s annual conference.
The Community Star Recognition Program started in 2015 by The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). Each year, awards are presented on the third Thursday of November as part of National Rural Health Day. Dedicated people and organizations will be honored for their commitment and care for the 61 million Americans living in rural areas on November 20, 2025.
