
The Western Tidewater Medical Reserve Corps (WTMRC) is a group of volunteer health care professionals and community members trained to respond and assist with public health crises in:
- Isle of Wight County
- Southampton County
- Suffolk
- Franklin
This unit is one of more than 1,000 units that are part of the national Medical Reserve Corps program under the direction of the Office of the U. S. Surgeon General and 1 of 31 in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Volunteer with Us
WTMRC recruits practicing, retired, or otherwise employed medical professionals, as well as community members with non-medical skills. This includes:
- Physicians
- Pharmacists
- Nurses
- Epidemiologists
- Paramedics
- Clergy
- Interpreters
- Sign language interpreters
- Administrative assistants
- Volunteer coordinators
- And more!
Membership Requirements
Membership in the Western Tidewater Medical Reserve Corps requires:
- Completed Volunteer Application in the Virginia Volunteer Health System
- Liability, HIPAA, and background check completed
- Volunteer Orientation and Initial Training
Once the initial orientation and training is completed, the WTMRC member will be able to attend a variety of training opportunities that are offered during the year. MRC Volunteers will be contacted by their local MRC Coordinator when they are needed to support local public health efforts.
