- Do I need special equipment to process eWIC transactions?
- Answer: Yes, either your own integrated system, or your store may qualify for up to four (4) “stand beside” units at no cost. These units process only eWIC transactions.
- How do I have my Point of Sale equipment validated for eWIC?
- Answer: The manufacturer of your Point of Sale (POS) equipment will be submitted with your eWIC application. Your store will be notified when your POS system is approved, or if it needs to undergo an approval and testing process.
- What is the Retailer Agreement?
- Answer: The Retailer Agreement is the official contract between a WIC Authorized Retailer and the Commonwealth of Virginia that describes the responsibilities and obligations of both parties. The Retailer Agreement is on our website:
- How do I know if my infant formula supplier/retailer is approved?
- Answer: The list of approved formula suppliers is available on our website. If your formula supplier is not on our list, they can send us an email (WIC_retailer@vdh.virginia.gov) to begin the process of being reviewed and approved by the agency.
- What is the Minimum Stocking Requirement?
- Answer: The Minimum Stocking Requirement (MSR) is the minimum quantity of some WIC eligible items that must be stocked at a WIC Authorized Retailer at all times. The MSR is available on our website.
- What is an “Unannounced Minimum Stocking Review?
- Answer: State WIC personnel will perform an onsite visit at your store to confirm that you have all of the items and quantities specified the Minimum Stocking Requirement, or MSR (see FAQ #6 above). You will not know when we schedule the visit.
- How do I know what items are eligible for WIC?
- Answer: The WIC Approved Food list shows which foods are eligible for eWIC and what foods are excluded from WIC, and is available on our website: 2018 English | 2018 Spanish

- How do I know which products require WIC Shelf Labels?
- Answer: You will learn all about the WIC Shelf Labels requirements, and other important information, at the mandatory New Store Training.
- What is the mandatory New Store Training?
- Answer: The New Store Training will be scheduled with you after your application has been received and you have passed your unannounced Minimum Stocking Review. The training is up to 4 hours in length.
- Where do I get the “WIC Accepted Here” decals and how much do they cost?
- Answer: “WIC Accepted Here” decals, and all WIC supplies, can be ordered directly from the Virginia WIC Office and are free of charge. The details of ordering supplies will be covered in the mandatory New Store Training.
- What if I still have questions?
- Answer: The mandatory training should answer all of your questions; however, each WIC authorized retailer has a Vendor Liaison assigned to them based on their geographic location. You can call 804-864-7800, or email WIC_retailer@vdh.virginia.gov and provide your store address to be put in touch with your liaison.
