Epidemiologist Mid-Level (Healthcare Associated Infections Epidemiologist)

Hiring Range: $69,131.97 - $80,066.94

Location: VDH-Central Office

This is a grant funded restricted position. The availability of funding is scheduled to review annually or periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-federal funds.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is looking for an experienced individual to serve as the lead epidemiologist for the state Healthcare-Associated Infections Program. The position manages all HAI surveillance activities, including managing the National Healthcare Safety Network for Virginia, and supervises and trains HAI surveillance staff. Oversees all HAI surveillance and data management activities to monitor and analyze disease trends; monitor surveillance data quality; prepare reports and presentations; provide information for long term program evaluation; and conduct epidemiological studies. Provides technical guidance on epidemiology and surveillance; conducts trainings for public health and healthcare staff; and liaises and communicates with internal and external stakeholders including the Virginia HAI Advisory Group, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, and agency data management workgroups. Develops priorities and standards for surveillance activities; evaluates and enhances existing HAI surveillance practices; manages epidemiological sections of grants; and monitors program performance towards national performance measures established by the CDC. Assesses impact of new policies and regulations; proposes changes to Virginia regulations as needed. Provides after hours response as a rotating member (~2 weeks/year) of the Office of Epidemiology on-call team.
