HPV

HPV Vaccine Recommendations:

The HPV vaccine series (2 doses 6 months apart) is recommended for children 11-12 years of age and the first dose is required for all children entering 7th grade in Virginia. Parents may choose to opt out of the vaccine after reviewing the Virginia Board of Health materials related to the connection of HPV and cancer. These can be found here.

More information about the HPV vaccine can be found here: https://www.cdc.gov/hpv/vaccines/index.html

All vaccine data on this page are reflective of doses reported to Virginia's Immunization Information System (VIIS). There may be vaccines administered to people that are not reflected in VIIS, and there may be vaccines administered to people reported in VIIS who are no longer residents of Virginia. VDH has set the maximum coverage rates displayed at 95% for this dashboard due to possible imprecision in the population estimates, as the denominator for these is census single-race population estimates. The data is refreshed weekly on Tuesdays and represents the selected age as of the refresh date.

Data is suppressed when the count of the number vaccinated is between 1-9, to preserve anonymity.

Population estimates data source: 2023 American Community Survey (ACS) population estimates.

*No population estimates are available for out-of-state individuals or those without a reported locality. More information about the population estimates can be found at this link - https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs

Some vaccine records were missing due to a database sync issue. It was fixed on 11/23/2025, and monitoring is in place by VDH to avoid similar issues in the future.
