Tracking COVID-19 in Virginia

VDH continues to provide all of the data sets powering the VDH COVID-19 Dashboards through the Virginia Open Data Portal. These data sets capture all data since the beginning of COVID-19 reporting in Virginia and continue to increase in size each day. As a result, the data sets may take longer to update on the Virginia Open Data Portal; however, all data sets are expected to update by 12:00 noon daily.
This is different from the data displayed on the VDH COVID-19 Daily Dashboard which is updated daily, and data are available by 10:00am.

COVID-19 Symptoms
Are you feeling sick?
People with COVID-19 might not have any symptoms. If they do, their symptoms can range from mild to severe. Not everyone with COVID-19 will have all these symptoms. Symptoms typically appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
If you have symptoms or signs of COVID-19, look for a free COVID-19 test near you
Important Information About COVID-19
COVID-19 is still spreading within Virginia, across the United States (U.S.), and in other countries. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) urges Virginians who are not fully vaccinated to avoid travel, especially if they are at higher risk of serious COVID-19 or if they will be visiting someone at higher risk of serious COVID-19. Travelers who are fully vaccinated are less likely to get or spread COVID-19 while traveling, but international travelers should still follow additional precautions listed. All travelers should consider the risks for getting or spreading COVID-19 and follow recommendations and requirements at their destination.

Protect Your Health
Are you protected against COVID-19?
There is no single step or strategy that can stop the spread of COVID-19. Instead, we need to follow multiple strategies--all at the same time--to stop the spread.
Your layers of prevention
COVID-19 Vaccinations
Everyone in Virginia age 5 or older is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine! Pre-registration is no longer required.

Masking
Wearing masks is an important tool to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Physical Distancing
Physical distancing is a way to slow the spread of COVID-19 by reducing close contact between people.

Hand Washing
Washing your hands often will help to keep your family safe from COVID-19, and also other illnesses like the cold and flu.

Know Your COVID-19 Status

COVID-19 Testing
No matter your vaccination status, consider a COVID-19 test if you're feeling sick or have symptoms of COVID-19. A quick test can give you results so you can know if you’re carrying the virus.

Contact Tracing
Contact tracing is an important part of how Virginia can stop the spread of COVID-19. Contact tracing and case investigations are important because it helps VDH to:
- Provide guidance and education about how to keep yourself and others safe
- Inform public health actions
- Understand communities hit hard by COVID-19
- Track the progress of the outbreak in Virginia
- Connect people with resources they may need

Isolation and Quarantine
If you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, protect people around you by staying away from them. Your healthcare provider or the health department can tell you when it is safe to go back to work, school or other places.
