About the Data:
This Student Immunization Status (SIS) Survey dashboard displays the immunization coverage for kindergarten and 7th grade students across the Commonwealth.
The coverage rates listed include reporting from public schools reported to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) by the Virginia Department of Education (DOE) and private schools reported to VDH by the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE). Some non-VCPE-accredited private schools also report, however VDH cannot verify that all private schools are represented in the dataset. Homeschooled students are not included in this dataset. Immunization coverage data reflect students’ immunization status as of the first day of school. VDH does not independently verify data submitted through the SIS. Immunization exemption data are reported separately on the Exemption Dashboard.
Suppression is applied to the underlying student counts. Any rate calculated from a suppressed count is also suppressed. Rates are reported as ranges rather than exact percentages because an exact rate, when combined with known enrollment, could be used to calculate the underlying student count. Rate ranges are designed to protect confidentiality. Each published range must be consistent with at least two possible whole-number student counts based on the school or county’s actual enrollment. Ranges are also reviewed across columns using complementary suppression to ensure that no suppressed value can be derived through back-calculation from surrounding values.
- Coverage rates are reported as:
- 95% or more
- 85.0–94.9%
- 75.0–84.9%
- 65.0–74.9%
- Less than 65%
- Zero values fall within the lowest exemption range, and 100% falls within the highest coverage range. As a result, no cell displays 0% or 100%, either of which could disclose the immunization status of every enrolled student.
- Schools or localities with fewer than 20 enrolled students are displayed as “Not shown.” These students remain included in all district and statewide totals.
- “No data reported” indicates that a school or locality did not submit data.
- Counties without color have no schools that reported data for the selected year.
