The Virginia Department of Health has suicide-related data available. Below are available data sources.

  • Injury and Violence Deaths Dashboard
    • Select ‘Suicide’ under the ‘Select specific death type’ menu
    • Suicide death counts and rates per 100,000 population among Virginia residents and by:
      • Demographics (sex, age group, race/ethnicity)
      • Geography (state, city/county)
  • Injury and Violence Hospitalizations Dashboard
    • Select ‘Self-harm’ under the ‘Select specific injury type’ menu.
    • Self-harm inpatient hospitalization counts and rates per 100,000 population among Virginia residents and by:
      • Demographics (sex, age group, race/ethnicity)
      • Geography (state, local health district)
  • Firearm-Related Deaths Dashboard
    • Firearm-related death counts and rates per 100,000 population among Virginia residents and by:

Data Requests

  1. Please review the links above first to see if we have what you need. There are also data sets on the Virginia Open Data Portal.
  2. If you do not see the data needed, please complete the Population Health Data Request Form.
    1. Under Section A: Type of Information Requested, please select ‘Injury and Violence.’
  3.  An epidemiologist will be in contact with you within a couple of business days after you submit your data request.
