Chickahominy WIC

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a program that helps women, babies, and young children who qualify. It gives families healthy foods, teaches them about good nutrition, and helps them get health care. WIC supports people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or recently had a baby, as well as infants and children up to age five.

The WIC program helps families by checking their health needs and connecting them to other health, welfare, and social service agencies, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion, support, and access to supplemental nutritious foods. To be eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must meet categorical, residential, income, and nutrition risk requirements.

WIC Foods:

WIC provides healthy foods like

  • milk,
  • cheese,
  • eggs,
  • beans,
  • peanut butter,
  • juice,
  • cereal,
  • fruits and vegetables,
  • whole‑grain foods,
  • baby foods, and formula for families who need them.

The types of foods you get can change based on your age, health needs, and what your family prefers. Moms who breastfeed receive the largest food packages, which also include canned tuna and salmon. They can stay in the WIC program longer, too. Our staff are trained to help make breastfeeding successful! Learn more about breastfeeding benefits.

eWIC Card:

WIC participants are issued an eWIC foods debit card, which is similar to a SNAP card, for use at grocery stores that accept WIC. Participants may shop at any grocery store in Virginia with a picture of the blue eWIC card on the front door.
